What Is Astrology
Astrology is one of the oldest symbolic systems in human history. Long before it was reduced to sun sign columns in magazines, it was a sacred science—carefully observed and recorded by ancient civilisations who understood the movements of the stars and planets as reflections of life on Earth.
From Mesopotamia and Egypt to Greece, India, and China, astrology formed the backbone of medicine, agriculture, philosophy, and spiritual practice. It was never intended to predict a fixed fate, but to offer a map of meaning — one that could guide individuals in understanding the patterns of their lives and the deeper purpose of their experiences.
In the modern West, much of astrology’s nuance was lost, replaced by oversimplified stereotypes.
Aries are aggressive, Pisces are dreamers, Geminis can’t stop talking — these shallow portrayals miss the rich psychological, spiritual, and symbolic depth that astrology provides.
I’ve always been drawn to astrology and have used it for many years as both an informative and therapeutic tool. Even when it was dismissed, I sensed its ability to illuminate inner truth, foster emotional insight, and support meaningful transformation. Over time, I’ve formally studied Evolutionary Astrology, a soulful branch of astrology that sees the birth chart as a blueprint of the soul’s ongoing journey across lifetimes. It explores the deeper “why” behind life patterns, relationships, challenges, and gifts, offering a compassionate, karmic, and growth-oriented perspective. In my work as a counsellor, I integrate this approach to help clients reconnect with their inner wisdom and life direction.
Astrology offers a uniquely personal lens through which to view the self. The Sun, Moon, and Ascendant —often called the astrological triad — are just the beginning. Each planet in the chart adds dimension: Mercury reveals how we think and communicate; Venus speaks to our values and the way we love; Mars illuminates our drive and instincts. The birth chart is a multidimensional, symbolic portrait of the psyche, shaped by the exact moment and place of your arrival into the world. No two charts are the same. In this complexity lies astrology’s power — it honours individuality while connecting us to universal archetypes and cycles.

I’ve also studied Medical Astrology, a practice rooted in nature and the classical elements — earth, water, fire, and air. It serves as a constitutional assessment tool, helping to identify innate patterns and imbalances within the body and mind. While largely forgotten in modern Western medicine, this elemental approach continues to thrive in systems such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda, where a person’s constitution is seen as central to their health and healing. Medical astrology bridges physical symptoms with emotional and energetic patterns, allowing me to offer clients holistic, personalised care that honours the unity of body and psyche.
Carl Jung, the founder of analytical psychology, viewed astrology as an archetypal language that mirrored the inner world. He saw it not as superstition, but as a profound symbolic system capable of revealing the patterns of both the personal unconscious and the collective soul.
Today, astrology is undergoing a renaissance. More people are discovering its depth, moving far beyond their sun sign and exploring the full richness of their chart. In a world often overwhelmed by noise and disconnection, astrology offers something rare: a timeless, intuitive system for self-inquiry, healing, and alignment with the deeper rhythms of life.

Astrology can be woven into counselling sessions to help illuminate unconscious patterns, support timing and decision-making, or deepen personal insight. For those seeking a more focused approach, I also offer comprehensive chart readings, including:
- Natal chart readings for psychological insight and life purpose
- Solar return readings to explore the themes and opportunities of the year ahead
- Transit and progression readings to better understand timing, growth cycles, and periods of change
Whether integrated into therapy, or offered as a stand-alone session, astrology provides a powerful tool for self-awareness, timing, and transformation — offering not predictions, but possibilities.
